WWE RAW RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR MAY 7
Look at my war, it’s the prettiest thing alive. I traded it for sanity now all you see is mine. Open the throttle, feel the thunder in the sails, pick up the scent of fear and follow the trail. When all I am is a stone that says the name I had and the years that I had been, the quiet depths and the measured steps won’t echo like the shriek of riot did. But for now, I’m gonna liveblog this here pro wrestling show for you, folks
The show opens with Kurt Angle making his entrance.
He welcomes us to the show and says he’s been part of the WWE family for nearly twenty years and they never stop. 52 weeks a year, all for the fans, and they’ve gone from WrestleMania to Greatest Royal Rumble to Backlash and they’re only getting started. Next up is Money in the Bank, and they’ll have two ladder matches, one for the men and one for the women, for each Raw & SmackDown.
He announces two qualifying matches for the ladder matches, a women’s triple threat between Ember Moon, Sasha Banks, and Ruby Riott, and a men’s triple threat between Roman Reigns, Finn Balor, and Sami Zayn.
(RRROOOAAARRR!)
Braun Strowman comes out and tells Angle about how when he was a kid and all the other boys in the neighborhood built a treehouse and not once did they ask for help. When they got done, he had to listen to them talk about their stupid handshake to get in, so what did he do? Not destroy the house, even better, he waited for them all to climb in and knocked the whole damn tree down!
Angle puts Braun’s recent accomplishments over and says if anyone deserves a shot at MITB, it’s Braun.
Enter Kevin Owens. He says if anyone deserves to be in the ladder match it’s him, and in his few weeks on Raw he’s proven to be the MVP. He anchors the highest-rated segments, people chant his name, and more importantly he’s a team player. The wrong man was pinned last night, the decision should be reversed, and that means that KO deserves a spot in the ladder match without qualifying.
The only thing Strowman deserves is to be sent to time out in the corner so he can reflect on how he’s been a very bad monster. Angle says he can’t just put him in the ladder match, but he’s giving Braun a qualifier. KO loses his mind and Strowman tells him he can get These Hands. Owens tells Kurt he’s gonna treat him fairly and make a decision that keeps in mind that Stephanie McMahon is watching and he should get right in the ladder match.
Angle’s glad he reminded him that Steph is watching, and Strowman’s match is going to be against Kevin Owens.
And it’ll begin after the break.
Back from commercial in time for the bell!
Braun Strowman vs. Kevin Owens (Money in the Bank Qualifying Match)
Strowman tosses Owens aside and referee Darrick Moore gets wiped out but recovers. To the outside, Braun chases KO around the ring and back inside, back elbow, clubbing him down to the mat and roaring. Stomp to the midsection, hard whip, punches in the corner, Owens gets a boot up but Strowman clobbers him to the floor! KO fights back, tornado DDT off the barricade, Moore counts but Braun gets back in the ring in time!
Kev with punches and a boot, off the ropes and Strowman decks him with a lariat! Sidestep the charge, the monster takes the ringpost hard and again Owens wants the countout! Braun gets back in and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Owens has a side headlock but Braun gets to his feet. Kick and a club to try and keep the monster among men off balance but KO runs into a Nodowa Otoshi and then a full-extension chokeslam! Going for the powerslam, Owens slips out, leg kicks, basement superkick, buzzsaw roundhouse, a senton to the back... NOT EVEN ONE!
Off the ropes, Strowman lands a boot but needs a moment before capitalizing and Kev takes advantage, dodging and hitting a superkick! Up top, frog splash... NOT ENOUGH! Braun stops a boot, Owens ducks a lariat, superkick connects, off the ropes, pop-up powerbomb denied and Strowman wipes him out with a lariat! Stinger Splash but KO rolls to the floor!
Braun heads out after him, around the corner... POUNCE! Around the ring one more time... ANOTHER POUNCE! Owens flagging, trying to regain his balance, Strowman makes his way back around and bang, lariat! Back in the ring, up on one shoulder...
Braun Strowman wins by pinfall with the running powerslam, qualifying for the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match.
Braun giant steps over KO during his celebration for good measure.
Commentary hypes up our two triple threat qualifying matches and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Roman Reigns is interviewed in the locker room.
His mindset tonight is that he’s the uncrowned champion and he’s sick and tired of being screwed. He can’t control backstage politics, but when the bell rings he’s in full control and silences the doubters. He’s made a career of silencing the hate, just ask Brock Lesnar or Samoa Joe. Tonight he wouldn’t want to be Sami Zayn or Finn Balor, because he’s pissed off and he’s gonna dominate his yard.
At Money in the Bank he’s going to win the contract and take what’s his back.
This feeds into a handcam promo from Bayley where she talks about how nothing would be better than hugging the Money in the Bank briefcase and one from Breezango where they talk about wanting the briefcase but don’t seem to understand what it is or how to get it.
Goldust is in Kurt Angle’s office quoting a movie at him. He wants a shot at being in the ladder match, it’s his quest, the ultimate gold. Jinder rolls up to complain about his treatment and Kurt tells him it can wait until after his match tonight against Chad Gable, and if he beats him, he’ll consider putting him in Money in the Bank.
No Way Jose & Titus Worldwide make their entrance together, they’ll have a match after the break.
Back from commercial in time for the rest of our entrances.
Baron Corbin & the Revival (Dash Wilder & Scott Dawson) vs. No Way Jose & Titus Worldwide (Apollo Crews & Titus O’Neil)
Wilder and O’Neil to start, Dash with probing strikes but Titus throws him into the corner and devastates him with an overhand chop. Tag to Crews, shoulder thrust into a body slam, elbow drop, arm wringer, Wilder backs him into the corner and tags Dawson in. Apollo with an arm drag into dropkicks, standing moonsault, looking for a suplex but the heels yank him to the apron and beat him down.
Corbin in, right hand, tag back to Scott, he comes in with a boot and punches, a back suplex, leg drop but it’s all barely good for one all put together. Abdominal stretch applied, blind tag to Baron and he shoves Crews into the corner for a beating. Enzuigiri from Apollo, tags made and No Way runs wild on Dawson! Whip into a boot, hip toss neckbreaker on Wilder, big Stinger Splash for Scott into the Finlay Roll!
Dash fends the babyfaces off but Crews wipes him out with a lariat and kips up after! Baron low-bridges him and Apollo spills to the floor. Jose from behind on Dawson, Corbin tags in but he doesn’t realize it, hits the pop-up forearm on Scott, Baron right behind him...
Baron Corbin & the Revival win by pinfall with End of Days from Corbin on No Way Jose.
Commentary hypes up our women’s qualifier as being up next and we go to break.
Back from commercial in time for entrances.
Ember Moon vs. Ruby Riott vs. Sasha Banks (Money in the Bank Qualifying Match)
Riott throwing forearms at both other women at the jump, double whip blocked, double hip toss connects and Ruby rolls to the floor and the safety of her pals. Banks with a schoolboy, only two, Moon with an arm drag, side cradle, no good, big palm strike from Sasha! Knucklelock, step-up arm drag, drop toehold, the Boss is rolling but Riott trips her up and yanks her out of the ring!
Basement superkick for Ember, only two, Ruby smashes her face into the turnbuckles and puts boots to her but Banks isn’t far behind. Arm wringer, whip reversed, corner headscissors blocked and Riott hits her own! Go behind, mat slam, Moon kips up, legsweep, basement reverse STO... NOPE! Drawing her up, guillotine choke, Ruby firing right hands and manages to shoot her off and gets the STO... STILL NO!
An elbow knocks Banks off the apron, front kick keeps Ember staggered and Riott looks to lock the Japanese stranglehold in but Moon blocks and Ruby has to settle for a nearfall off a cover. Knees and kicks to the back, Ember fires forearms back but gets laid out by an uppercut only for the Boss to break the pin up! Inverted DDT / reverse STO combo from Riott but she can’t put the other women away!
Mounted punches on both of them, dumping Banks, Moon with a rollup, Riott clocks her with a lariat but can’t put her away just yet. Mat slam, another two count, and she moves on to a reverse chinlock, which Ember counters with a Stunner! The Boss in, running lariats into a dropkick, catch the boot, front kick, Moon ducks a lariat and hits a huge crossbody fro a nearfall!
Straight suplex, Ember floats over into a DDT, clears Ruby from the apron with a dropkick, Sasha sidesteps a Stinger Splash and hits the corner knees. Up and over to the apron... SENTON ATOMICO INTO THE RIOTT SQUAD! Riott hits a missile dropkick to the floor and Moon joins the fun with a suicide dive! Back inside, the cover... NOT ENOUGH!
Ember headed up top, Sarah Logan yanks her off the turnbuckles, Ruby looks to suplex Banks back inside but fails, knee to the face, slingshot back in and the corner headscissors connects! To the second, Riott cuts her off with a forearm and they jockey for position. Avalanche Frankensteiner... THE RIOTT SQUAD BREAK IT UP! Beating Banks down...
BAYLEY MAKES THE SAVE! The Squad fend her off and go back to Banks but the Hugger won’t let them beat her friend down no matter how things have been! Sasha and Ruby at it, Bank Statement blocked, kick to the knee and an arm wringer but Banks clocks her with a forearm! Sasha has the Bank Statement ready to go but Moon’s up top...
Ember Moon wins by pinfall with Eclipse on Ruby Riott, qualifying for the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match.
Commentary hypes up our remaining men’s qualifier as well as an interview with Bobby Lashley and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Ember Moon is walking backstage when she runs into an interview.
She says she’s over the moon and proves people wrong every time they doubt her. She seized an opportunity tonight and this is only the beginning. She’s gonna rise and grab that Money in the Bank contract.
The Bobby Lashley interview begins with a video package about his career, from his amateur wrestling background through to his time in WWE and as an MMA fighter. He talks about how he’s blessed to have a great family and how his sisters used to take him in the woods and tie him up. He relates further stories about his sisters and that’s the whole interview.
Sami Zayn is backstage complaining to Kevin Owens about how the cloud of conspiracy follows them and Owens plays the “I’ve suffered more than you” card. Sami tells him not to let “them” turn them against each other and Kev brings up Zayn slapping him in the face yesterday. Sami plays it off like that was yesterday and they need to seize power today.
The best way to do that is to win Money in the Bank and then win the Universal Championship, and Zayn apologizes for yesterday but says they’ll be more sorry if neither of them qualify and he needs KO to have his back since three-ways are no-DQ. Owens hesitates but tells him he has his back.
Sunil Singh gives his man a big entrance, but we go to break before his match.
Back from commercial in time for Gable’s entrance.
Chad Gable vs. Jinder Mahal
Rolling Koppo kick from the jump, pasting Mahal in the corner with forearms, up and over, duck a lariat, slide under, waistlock into a takedown and Gable is rolling! Bridging pin, shift to a front chancery, Jinder hosses him up and sets him on the apron before shoulder thrusting him to the floor! Back in, Mahal grabs a bear hug and I can hardly bear it!
Chad breaks loose, hits a few uppercuts but Jinder whips him hard into the corner and draws him up by the hair into an abdominal stretch. Gable throws him aside, catches him with an uppercut... ARMBAR IN THE ROPES! He breaks at the count, moonsault connects... NOT ENOUGH! Back elbow blocks a German suplex, off the ropes Jinder hits a huge knee strike and goes for a slam but Chad floats over into a schoolboy for a tight nearfall!
Mahal snaps his neck over the top rope, runs over him with a boot and picks him up...
Jinder Mahal wins by pinfall with Khallas.
Jinder celebrates as Sunil jaws at Chad. Gable looks ready to fight so Mahal pops down, beats on him, hangs him in the corner and hits repeated half nelson knees to the ribs. Gourdbuster into the ropes, the Modern-Day Maharaja boots the Olympian to the floor!
We get a handcam promo from Alexa Bliss where she pledges to win Money in the Bank and cash in on Nia Jax. The Ascension also cut a promo about rising to the top of the ladder.
Commentary hypes up our men’s qualifier and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Zack Ryder is in Kurt Angle’s office.
He says we’re in his home town and what would be better than the home town hero qualifying for Money in the Bank? Kurt’s about to let him down gently when Jinder Mahal rolls up to demand a spot in the triple threat tonight so he can qualify for Money in the Bank. Angle drops Ryder’s catchphrase to tell him no and he and Zack awkwardly fistbump.
Beauty and the Man-Beast (Heath Slater & Rhyno) vs. Dolph Ziggler & Drew McIntyre
Rhyno and Ziggler to start, Dolph goes behind and slaps his back, waistlock, wristlock escape into a lariat! Arm wringer, tag to Slater, Heath comes in with a fist drop to the elbow, off the ropes, big forearm, duck a lariat, back suplex denied and McIntyre tags in. Slater ducks a punch, throws combos of his own, whip reversed, up and over but Drew has it scouted with a kick to his face!
Setting up the inverted Alabama Slam, Ziggler gives him the assist with a superkick, he clears Rhyno from the apron and the tag is made...
Dolph Ziggler & Drew McIntyre win by pinfall with the Claymore / Zig Zag combination on Heath Slater.
We go backstage with Elias where he’s warming up ahead of his match against Elias.
Back from commercial, Elias is in the ring to sing us a song.
He talks about how he’s on a different planet from everybody else and recounts how he got interrupted over and over again last night. He says he’s surprised Long Island doesn’t like Bobby Roode since they worship that talentless hack Billy Joey, and if Roode interrupts him one more time he’ll rip apart his vocal chords.
He launches into his song, which of course is all about running Bobby down as well as Long Island, but inevitably he’s interrupted by Roode making his entrance.
Bobby Roode vs. Elias
Right into the fight from the jump, trading punches back and forth! Whip reversed, Roode runs him over with a lariat and heads up top, diving forearm strike and Bobby’s already calling for it. Enzuigiri connects but the Drifter rolls to the floor and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Elias is in control and clubbing away at Roo’s back. Scoop and a release slam, cover gets two, elbow drop to the kidneys into a Just Facelock, wrenching back. dropping an elbow and locking it back on when Bobby looks like he might post out. Roode bridges into a pin to force the break, whip across, kick blocks the back body drop and they go back to trading punches.
Whip reversed, Bobby takes the corner hard but comes back with a spinning spinebuster... NOPE! Charging corner lariat but Elias counters the neckbreaker into a backbreaker for two! Putting the boots to the Glorious One, big Tenryu powerbomb but he can’t put Roode away just yet. Jockeying for position around the post gives way to trading haymakers, Elias blocks a fireman’s carry and draws him up for Drift Away, Bobby counters...
Bobby Roode wins by pinfall with the Glorious DDT.
Roode is interviewed after the match and says great is an understatement but in the future his feelings are gonna get better because he intends to qualify for Money in the Bank. Beating Elias was great, but winning Money in the Bank will be absolutely glorious.
Seth Rollins is shown walking backstage and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Seth Rollins makes his entrance.
He gets on the mic and asks Long Island how they’re feeling tonight. After last night, he’s feeling pretty good, too, because whether you love him or hate him, the Miz took him to his limit. But in the end he stomped out his dreams of tying the record for most reigns as Intercontinental Champion and he stands before you, proud, as your champion.
If he’s being honest, there’s one thing you can learn from the Miz, and that’s what kind of champion not to be. He wants to be a champion that’s here every single week, a champion that the Miz could only pretend to be, a fighting champion. All the buzz tonight is about Money in the Bank and he knows a thing or two about how winning the contract can change your life, but that’s not his focus now.
He’s trying to make the title THE title on Raw and maybe he can create an opportunity for somebody else, so he’s issuing an open challenge for the Intercontinental Championship right here, right now! (Van Halen’s kicking ass in America?)
MOJO RAWLEY ANSWERS THE CALL! He says this is the opportunity he deserves, because when opportunity comes knocking, he knocks people down, and that’s what he’s gonna do to Seth. The crowd chants for Zack Ryder and he adds that he’s gonna knock Rollins down just like he did Zack, and take the title out of his hands before qualifying for Money in the Bank. He’s gonna win the contract, because no longer is it Monday Night Rollins, from here on out, it’s Monday Night Rawley.
Seth tells him to come on in and get his ass kicked and we’re off!
Mojo Rawley vs. Seth Rollins (c) (WWE Intercontinental Championship)
Circling, collar and elbow, side headlock from Rawley, shot off, drop down, dropkick gets Rollins back into it. Struggle over a suplex, Seth lands on his feet, passes Mojo to the floor, slingshot dropkick and a plancha but nobody’s home and Rawley runs him over from behind! Three-point stance... POUNCE! OFF TO BREAK!
Back from commercial, Mojo is in control with a reverse chinlock but Rollins breaks free and fires a chop off. Off the ropes, Rawley grabs his jaw and rams him with a vengeance into the corner a few times before hitting the Nodowa Otoshi! Mojo jaws at the crowd, mocking Rollins as their champion. Seth fights back with chops, Rawley cuts him off with a kick, charges in and gets caught with the reverse STO into the turnbuckles!
Back elbow up on a charge, Seth perches, nobody home, lands on his feet and hits the enzuigiri! Clothesline to the floor, fired up... suicide dive! Back in, on the second, diving blockbuster... CAN’T PUT RAWLEY AWAY! Charging forearm, up and over to the apron, springboard back in, nobody home and Mojo hits a thrust spinebuster for a nearfall!
Rawley stalks him, fireman’s carry, the Architect fights out with elbows, folding press, Avada Kedavra when that doesn’t work... NOPE! Tuning the band up, kick to the midsection, off the ropes... CAUGHT WITH A FIREMAN’S CARRY FLAPJACK FOR TWO! Off the ropes... POUNCE! Going for another, he runs into a superkick, ripcord knee strike connets, superkick, off the ropes...
Seth Rollins wins by pinfall with Blackout, retaining the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
Finn Balor gets a handcam promo where he’s smiling because he has a chance to overcome the odds. When he wins tonight he’ll go on to win the ladder match and victory will be so much sweeter.
We get an ad for Total Bellas to send us to break.
Back from commercial, Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel get a picture in picture about how we should refer to them now.
Bo says they’re leading men in their breakout role, and Axel pledges to beat the Raw Tag Team Champions tonight, and they try “Stay tuned” out as a catchphrase.
Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel vs. Deleters of Worlds (Bray Wyatt & Matt Hardy)
Wyatt and Axel to start, Bray destroys him with a lariat and tags Hardy in. “Delete!” fingers, Curtis fends him off, northern forearms in the corner, tag to Dallas, whip into a DDT, only two! Repeated knee drops into a reverse chinlock, Matt escapes, Side Effect connects, tags made on both sides! Wyatt in with a lariat, palm strike rush to the corner, and into that huge freight train cross body block!
Falling back in the corner, going for Sister Abigail, denied thanks to interference from Bo, Axel dives but gets caught with the Rock Bottom! Tag made...
Deleters of Worlds win by pinfall with a double Sister Abigail on Curtis Axel.
Natalya gets a handcam promo promising her cat she’s going to bring Money in the Bank home. Baron Corbin gets one where he talks about how he doesn’t care how the other wrestlers feel and he’s gonna repeat his victory from last year.
Commentary promises our last men’s qualifier is up next and we go to break.
Back from commercial in time for main event entrances.
Finn Balor vs. Roman Reigns vs. Sami Zayn (Money in the Bank Qualifying Match)
Zayn jaws at both men and gets the taste slapped out of his mouth by Reigns! Clubbing Balor down, headbutt connects, whip reversed, sunset flip, Finn rolls through and hits a basement dropkick! Punch in the corner, whip reversed, sidestep the charge and Roman blocks an enzuigiri with a heavy right before running Sami off and sending us to break.
Back from commercial, Roman runs into a dropkick from Finn! Repeated stomps against the ropes, Sami swoops in with a schoolboy but can’t end it and Reigns runs him over with lariats right after. Big Dog with the corner lariats, knocking Zayn aside when he tries to come in and Samoan dropping Finn! Zayn and Balor find themselves on the floor and they form a temporary alliance beating Roman down!
Stereo clotheslins send Reigns to the floor and Finn and Sami head outside to keep beating on him. Over by the technicians’ area, Roman manages to fight back but a Helluva Kick puts him over the barricade! Balor perches on the barricade... NOPE! Zayn takes Balor back in the ring to finish the jop but he comes up empty!
Overhead elbows come up empty but Sami presses the attack, clubbing Balor to the mat! Desperation sinks in, the overhead kick lands true and they go to slugging each other out in the middle of the ring! Chops charging corner to corner and Balor gets the inverted headlock elbow drop! Finn knocked to the floor but he has the wherewithal to make Sling Blade happen!
Charges into a boot... SUPERMAN PUNCH OVER THE BARRICADE! Drive-By wakes everyone up and it’s a whole thing. Back in the ring, exploder suplex in the corner, Helluva Kick denied by way of Superman Punch! Calling for the spear, Sling Blade hits instead, he perches up top but the Big Dog rolls to the side and hits a Superman punch!
Fired up, Jinder Mahal shows up and trips Roman, Helluva Kick connects, Shotgun Dropkick, up top...
Finn Balor wins by pinfall with Coup de Grace from Finn Balor on Sami Zayn, qualifying for the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match.
Finn poses for the crowd in victory.
That’s the show, folks.
